Appreciation of "Beyond the Verge" Works | Song Kun: "Nature and Man-made Nature" in Contemporary Context

Triumph Gallery will launch an artist group exhibition "Beyond the Verge" in the 798 Art District from November 21, 2020 to January 3, 2021. The exhibition presents 22 works by ten artists. The artist group exhibition "Beyond the Verge" is also one of the series of exhibitions in the 2020 Beijing 798 Art Festival.

This article will focus on the work of the participating artist Song Kun.

Song Kun

Graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, and now lives and works in Beijing. The works are mainly paintings, combined with music scene, Music Video, installation and other methods. Song Kun’s works have always contained an important concept: "stream-of-consciousness narrative" and "subconscious synesthesia". This is an important feature of her creation and the inheritance of Chinese oriental aesthetics. "Her firmness and self-confidence enable her paintings to borrow language from music, sound, images, etc., so as to give paintings a special narrative energy." In recent years, Song Kun's artistic creation has entered a new stage, experimentally integrating contemporary subcultural and religious elements with his creation system, forming a unique sample closer to her personal temperament.

Introduction

The level of Song Kun's creation is related to the "natural and man-made nature" in the contemporary context—Crystal resin is used for collage: it has the transparency of water and the sense of industry. In addition, the artist combined some subcultural elements-Cosplay magic film, BJD Doll character setting, Oriental psychedelic MV and other elements-these are all her usual interest. But the prototypes of Ashura are from real people-played by friends around the artist and some public figures, and then "Remixed" them with these elements.
